If your household is anything like mine then a big chunk of your monthly budget goes on groceries. With food prices at an all time high we could all use a little help to lower our grocery bills. Here are some easy strategies you can use to help cut down on these expenses in your household.

Plan Your Meals According to Store Sales

Instead of just thinking up meals and heading to the store, take some time to plan your meals according to store sales. Grab your local grocery store sales circular and look for the best weekly sales. Once you have found the best deals, plan your meals based on those ingredients. To save even more money on meal planning look for coupons to go with the store items that are on sale. Store sales and coupons equals big savings.

Make a List and Stick to It

Once you have planned your meals make a list of all the items you will need. The most important thing is sticking to your list at the store. Avoid grocery shopping when hungry, and don’t put anything in your cart that not on your list. Impulse buying will lead to extra costs at check out time.

Sign Up for Rewards Programs

Many of your local grocery stores will have rewards programs which offer money saving incentives to customers. These usually come in the form of store reward cards that offer special discounts and coupons for store items. Be sure to check with your local stores to make sure your not missing our on any of these programs.

Stock Up

Once you find a great sale that’s hard to pass up take that opportunity to stock up on those items. Stocking up on sale items means you will have plenty of those items on hand when you need them. This eliminates the possibility of having to purchase expensive items that are not on sale.

Drink More Water

A big portion of many family grocery bills goes to the purchase of beverages. Sodas and juices are expensive, and these costs can add up from week to week. Instead of spending your money on sugary drinks try drinking more water instead. It’s free other than the cost of your monthly water bill. Not to mention it’s more healthy for you too.
